19-year-old Andrew Ho was awarded second place for Illuminated by nature, a starry night sky worthy of Vincent van Gogh. Describing his picture, Andrew, who is originally from Hong Kong but now lives in the UK, said "No matter how gorgeous artificial lights are, nothing can compare with the gift from Mother Nature." If you want to see more of Andrew's photos, feel free to visit his Flickr account.
Third place went to Kunal Chopra, a PhD candidate in Developmental Biology at the University of Sheffield, for Divine lamp, which particularly struck the judges because of its symmetry and colour balance. Kunal began taking photos in 2011 and has recently branched out into shooting in RAW. His current speciality is travel, nature and portrait photography, and you can find other examples of his work here.
Many congratulations to the three winners and a big thank you everyone who took part. If you missed the competition deadline, though, never fear; Europe Through a Lens will be back with a new theme very soon!
